The Ironman in Hamburg was overshadowed on Sunday by an incident in the everyone’s race. On the bike course, metal splinters caused numerous flat tires. The police are investigating.
In Kirchwerder in the Bergedorf district, metal splinters lay on the street in the morning. Many participants in the everyone’s race had to interrupt or even abandon the race with flat tires. According to the police, these were tiny, millimeter-sized parts.
There were also injuries. According to NDR 90.3 information, at least one participant had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance. The police are on site and are investigating.
Police have not yet commented on the background
The background to the campaign could be that there are many discussions in the Bergedorf district about the route of the cycle route. Residents feel restricted by the closures. There are also protest signs along the route saying “You are robbing us of our freedom”.
However, the police did not want to comment on the possible background. A police employee called speculation that it was an attack “speculation.”
