Franziska Brausse won the world title in the individual pursuit at the track cycling world championships in France.
Franziska Brausse threw her arms in the air and finally celebrated the first major individual title of her career: After a cycling thriller over 3,000 meters, the four-man Olympic champion won gold in the individual pursuit at the track cycling world championships just outside Paris.
The 23-year-old won the duel for gold against Bryony Botha (New Zealand) with a lead of 0.442 seconds. Mieke Kröger was narrowly defeated by Briton Josie Knight in the fight for bronze.
Successor to Lisa Brennauer
“Taking over the title from Lisa is really special for me and hasn’t really arrived yet,” said Brauße, who finished second in the World Championships a year ago behind Lisa Brennauer, who has since retired. Now it was enough for the really big coup.
It was the second title for the German team. Emma Hinze, Lea Friedrich and Pauline Grabosch won gold with the sprint team on Wednesday.
Third medal for Hinze at this World Cup
Hinze had earlier on Saturday won the silver medal in the 500m time trial. One day after the 25-year-old was dethroned as the sprint world champion, gold was again not enough in the final. In 33.051 seconds, Hinze surprisingly had to admit defeat to the French Taky Marie Divine Kouame (32.835).
In qualifying, Hinze set the best time on the wooden oval, but in the final the enthusiastically celebrated Frenchwoman surpassed herself. “When you’re first in qualifying, it’s a bit of a shame. It was difficult at first, I needed a moment. But now I’m happy,” said Hinze.
For the 25-year-old it was the third medal at this World Cup. She had previously won gold in the team sprint and bronze in the sprint on the Olympic track in Paris 2024.
Second place meant that Hinze was the second driver after Anna Meares to win all four short-term titles (sprint, keirin, 500 meters and team sprint). “It’s been a lot in the last two or three years. I’ve been to every final, I can see that now,” said Hinze, who will no longer start in Keirin on Sunday: “I can see that my body has given me a sign. “
Grabosch and Friedrich miss the final
The Chinese Yufang Guo from China (33.214) took third place over the 500-meter distance. Lea Sophie Friedrich, Pauline Grabosch and Alessa-Catriona Pröpster, on the other hand, missed the final in 9th, 10th and 15th place.
Friedrich, who was second in the sprint on Friday, had won the world title over 500 meters in the past two years.
