Irene Schouten remains unbeatable in the 3000 meters this season. At the World Allround Championships in Hamar (Norway), the skater from Hoogkarspel improved the track record: 3:58.00. Despite this, the West Frisian is not at the top of the general classification.
The Japanese Miho Takagi, who won the 500 meters, was a total of 0.43 seconds faster. In the 500 meters, Schouten finished seventh and set a personal best (39.24). The top three consists of Antoinette de Jong after two distances.
Merel Conijn from Edam makes her debut at the World Cup because of her national title all-round† The twenty-year-old skater finished eleventh in the 500 meters. In the 3000 meters she recorded sixth place, enough for seventh place in the general classification.
Schouten decided in the run-up to the World Cup all-round to auction her skating suit for the action of Giro 555 for Ukraine.
World Sprint
The Sprint World Championship ended for debutant Tijmen Snel with eighth place. The Amsterdammer set the twelfth time in the second 500 meters and was eighth in the closing 1000 meters. Thomas Krol eventually became the world champion. In the women’s competition, Jutta Leerdam, the girlfriend of the Alkmaar skater Koen Verweij, won.
