Track and field star Gesa Krause is aiming to compete at the European Athletics Championships and the Olympics

After her successful return to the German championships, obstacle runner Gesa Krause emphasized that she would also like to compete in the European Athletics Championships and the Olympics this year.

After her maternity break, the 31-year-old won the indoor title over 3000 meters for the second time in Leipzig on Saturday. Today the two-time European champion has another chance over 1500 meters.

Krause was happy about his first success in Leipzig. “I would like to build on where I’ve already been. For now, I’m happy about the title, that’s what it was all about here and today.”

Big goals

She then looked ahead to the season’s highlights and emphasized: “If I do it again, I’ll do it right. Then I want to be at the Olympics again, and anyone who knows me knows that I want to be in the finals there too. “

The athletics competitions at the Paris Games will take place in early August. In her previous three Olympic participations in 2012, 2016 and 2021, Krause took seventh, sixth and fifth place. She won bronze at the World Championships in 2015 and 2019.

A good nine months after the birth of her daughter, the athlete from the Silvesterlauf Trier club still has to get back to international level. A first big goal is the European Championships in Rome at the beginning of June.

“If I stay healthy, if everything goes so that I can run to my norm, then I would very, very much like to compete in Rome,” emphasized Krause.
