In the first game after the earthquake disaster, Trabzonspor fans dedicated a huge choreography to the victims and helpers – and moved many to tears.

A baby in the arms of a firefighter and a fist sticking out of the rubble and raising the Turkish flag in the air: fans of the Turkish soccer champions Trabzonspor performed a huge choreography before the conference league game against FC Basel ( 1:0) caused goosebumps. “Many people had tears in their eyes”, wrote the newspaper Fanatik on Friday.

The spectators of the Turkish first division club Trabzonspor commemorated the victims of the earthquake disaster in Turkey and Syria in the Conference League with an impressive choreography.

Stefan Kuntz is moved

The Turkish national coach Stefan Kuntz, who shared pictures of the impressive choreography on social networks, was also in the stadium. “A wonderful and strong sign of solidarity”, wrote Kuntz. “All viewer earnings will be donated to the victims, all advertising revenue will also be donated. Any fan can bring toys that will be given to children in the earthquake area.”

The choreography was under the motto “We stand together – and our wounds heal together” and was accompanied by mourning music. The flags of the countries currently helping Turkey, including Germany, could be seen on the firefighter’s helmet. “Thank you,” read the man’s bracelet. Also pictured was the Mexican search dog Proteo, who had saved the lives of two people and later died during an operation.

Fans of the rivals also participate

Because of the great demand for tickets, Trabzon also offered special tickets. Supporters of big rivals Besiktas, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and other clubs also donated in this way, some of them also appearing in their clubs’ shirts at the stadium, where they sat side by side with Trabzon fans.

The presidents of the Süper Lig clubs sat in the grandstand. Play in the Turkish league is suspended until the beginning of March.

Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated

On Monday last week, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 shook the Turkish-Syrian border area, followed hours later by a second severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6. In the meantime, the number of dead in the Turkish-Syrian border area has risen to more than 42,000.

After the earthquake disaster, all sporting events in Turkey were initially canceled.
