According to the municipality of Assen, the Toyisten artwork is finally getting the place it deserves. “This is the meeting place in Assen for motorcyclists and this place is directly connected to the other TT villages along the historic TT route,” says alderman Bob Bergsma. TT Circuit director Peter Oosterbaan is also happy with it. “For visitors to the circuit and also for passers-by who drive along the circuit with, for example, a tour, this is a nice symbol to reflect on the story of the TT, or to take a picture with it of course.”
The other sculptures by the Toyisten artist group are in Hooghalen, Rolde, Grolloo, Schoonloo and Borger. All places that are important for the TT. According to the municipality, all statues are the same in size, but each has a different painting. “These paintings each depict a historical TT story with a theme, based on a racing driver. The Asser statue, which depicts the story of Giacomo Agostini, was damaged by storm and has undergone a refurbishment in the studio before being placed at the track. ” The Toyists spent about three months restoring the statue.
