Tourists will pay entrance fees in Venice from 2023, those who do not risk fines of 50 to 300 euros | Abroad

Luigi Brugnaro, the mayor of Venice, previously announced that visitor fees would have to be paid in the future. Now, counsel Simone Venturini has made the plan concrete. For example, from 16 January 2023, visitor fees will be requested from day trippers. In addition, the visit must be booked in advance. Depending on how busy it is and how long the ticket has been reserved in advance, the price varies between three and ten euros per person.

However, there are some exceptions. Residents of the city will not have to pay anything. The same applies to children under the age of six, the disabled, people who live in Venice and people who come to visit relatives or attend a sporting or cultural event. Tourists who stay longer than a day in Venice do not have to pay an entrance fee as they already pay the tourist tax at the hotel where they are staying.

“Tourism is really picking up again in Venice and that is a relief for all the people who work in this sector,” said Brugnaro. “But today many have understood that a reservation system is the only right way to a more balanced management of tourism.”

“To determine the entrance fee, we set a threshold of a maximum of 40,000 or 50,000 visitors per day. By the way, if you book, you can count on extras, such as a discount on a museum visit.”
