Tour version Ronde van Drenthe canceled due to snow

CYCLING – The tour version of the Ronde van Drenthe, which was to be held tomorrow, has been canceled due to the snow. With a pre-registration of 155 recreational cyclists and hand bikers, there was great enthusiasm beforehand.

This afternoon, the Drentse Acht van Westerveld, with start and finish in Dwingeloo, was also halted after 17 kilometers due to the snow. The Women’s WorldTour Ronde van Drenthe for professional cyclists will continue tomorrow. However, all boulder strips have been removed from the course due to the combination of snow and frost. Instead, the riders will take an alternative route.

“It is a great pity for our tour riders, but it is not responsible,” says chairperson Femmy van Issum of the Ronde van Drenthe. Scheduled at 09.30 a.m. Then it will still be below zero and the roads will not be clean yet,” says Van Issum.

“Participants who have already registered will receive their money back. We have already incurred quite a few costs: the sandwiches were already made and the pea soup was already ready. We were also busy placing signs. But we already got there on the way I have found out that it is not responsible to go cycling in the morning in the morning.”

The Tour of Drenthe can be followed live on TV Drenthe both tomorrow and Sunday. The broadcast of the Women’s WorldTour will start at 3 p.m. on Saturday. The live broadcast of the Albert Achterhes Profronde for men starts on Sunday at 2 p.m.
