Tour | Five highlights of the 109th Tour de France

After 3,343.8 kilometers, the 109th Tour de France ends today on the magnificent Champs Élysees boulevard in Paris.

For the first time in 26 years, Jonas Vingegaard is a Danish professional cyclist in the yellow jersey riding through the French capital. The German riders didn’t win a stage, but veteran Simon Geschke spent almost two weeks in a mountain jersey.

Danish Dynamite:

The Grand Départ already took place in the Danish capital Copenhagen. With the tailwind from home, the Danish drivers delivered a spectacle. Jonas Vingegaard grabbed the yellow jersey from Tour champion Tadej Pogacar on the Col du Granon and didn’t give it up, to top it off he also won the mountain finish in Hautacam. For the first time since Bjarne Riis in 1996, a yellow Dane has reached Paris. But that’s not all: Magnus Cort Nielsen first wore the mountain jersey and then won the stage to Megeve. In addition, former world champion Mads Pedersen won the day in Saint-Etienne.

Miraculous Journey in Mountain Jersey:

Rather by accident, Simon Geschke slipped into the mountain jersey, which he then no longer wanted to give up. With a big fighting spirit, the man with the full beard defended the red-dotted dress across the Alps, through the Massif Central to the Pyrenees. He was constantly in escape groups and collected points. He was exhausted on the last mountain stage and was replaced by Patron Vingegaard after nine days. The dream of the first German mountain king in Paris was over. The fact that he still had to wear the jersey to Paris as Vingegaard’s deputy made him rather uncomfortable.
