Cycling superstar Tadej Pogacar has shown understanding for doubts about his performance.
“We drive fast, we go in full. I understand people that they are skeptical about what has happened in the past. Some can’t get over it,” said the two-time Tour of France winner.
From 1998 to 2009, various doping scandals in cycling made mass negative headlines. At the beginning of the week, the professionals had their second rest day at the 110th Tour de France.
Rival Jonas Vingegaard had been asked a similar question the day before. He also showed sympathy for suspicion. “I understand these questions. I can only say: I don’t take anything,” said the 26-year-old.
With six stages remaining before the end of this year’s Tour in Paris, Pogacar is just under ten seconds behind defending champion Vingegaard.
