Tadej Pogacar has left his participation in the World Cycling Championships in Glasgow open.
“When I come home next week, I’ll try to relax a little. Then I’ll see how I feel,” said the Slovenian after his stage win in the Tour de France on Saturday in Le Markstein.
Pogacar goes into the final stage of the Tour of France as second overall, well behind defending champion Jonas Vingegaard, where traditionally there is no longer an attack. The 24-year-old’s preparation was significantly affected by a broken scaphoid on his left wrist.
“I’ve always liked world championships,” said two-time Tour winner Pogacar: “It’s difficult this time because it’s at a bad stage of the season. I can’t promise anything.” The World Championship road race will take place two weeks after the end of the Tour on August 6th, with the individual time trial four days later.
With four participations so far, 18th place in the road race in 2019 was the best place for the exceptional driver, in the fight against the clock last year he finished sixth.
Rival Vingegaard skips the multi-world championships in Scotland, where titles in almost all cycling disciplines will be awarded for the first time from August 3rd. There would be a lot of competition for Pogacar in Remco Evenepoel. The Belgian exceptional talent wants to defend his title.
