Tour de France, only 7 Italians at the start: not surprising, but humiliating

In the 1990s we even had 50 riders at the start, now they are very few: a breakthrough is needed

We’ve had even worse years, because in some editions of Italians on the Tour there wasn’t even a shadow. But if we look back to the mid-1990s, when there were about fifty of our riders at the start, we have to give it a little thought. Seven are too few because if we go and pick them one by one we realize that we have very few chances of winning. All are great runners, but many will have specific tasks. Matteo Trentin will be the director of Uea Emirates having Pogacar as captain and favorite of the Tour.
