Tough Fischer criticism of Union Stars

By Paul Gorgas

After the seventh competitive game defeat in a row, Union coach Urs Fischer (57) is really pissed off!

The 2:4 at BVB is also the Iron Men’s fifth Bundesliga defeat in a row. This has never happened since the rise in 2019 – the crisis is getting worse.

Above all, the way his Union stars brought Dortmund back into the game after taking the lead made the coach angry after the final whistle.

Fischer rages: “How you concede the second and third goals is not possible at this level. There is no ultimate consequence, there are clear agreements. When I see how we defended the four goals we conceded, it’s simply not enough.”

The Swiss had already vented his anger on the “Sky” microphone: “We acted stupidly and naively. You can’t make things that easy for Dortmund.”

The fact is: With the 2-1 win after a decent first half, more would have been possible for Union. But the quick goals from Schlotterbeck (50th minute) and Brandt (54th) turned the game around.

Fischer: “We were prepared. It wasn’t a storm. But the way we defended the opportunities they had was inadequate.”

Manager Oliver Ruhnert (51) also criticized the team’s performance after the break: “What I honestly don’t understand is how we got out of halftime and how passive we became. I didn’t like the fact that you play in Dortmund and have the impression that Dortmund isn’t having the best day and that we then withdraw like that.”

Ruhnert continued: “We score way too many goals, that’s not Union-like. This is not the game we live by. It’s too easy to score goals against us.”

The Köpenickers now have two weeks of international break to get the unusual wobbles in defense under control.
