Hardly any playing time at Conte
“I’m very happy to be here and I want to adapt quickly and help the team,” explained Bryan Gil (20) when he sold the White last summer as part of a swap deal between Sevilla FC and Tottenham Hotspur for around 25 million euros Hart Lane substituted (Erik Lamela left in return). Half a series later, Gil’s time with the “Spurs” could already be over – at least for the time being. According to consistent media reports, several clubs are interested in a transfer of the Spaniard and the hottest lead leads to Valencia.
Under coach Antonio Conte, the left winger has not yet managed to establish himself in Tottenham’s first eleven. Gil has only made eight brief appearances in the Premier League, and in his regular position he faces stiff competition from Steven Bergwijn and Heung-min Son, among others. Last season, the homegrown Sevillistas made 28 appearances in Spain’s top flight (4 goals, 3 assists) while on loan from Sevilla to Eibar, where he was a permanent fixture under José Luis Mendilibar.
In North London, however, it hasn’t worked out so far. The left winger under 21, who can be used flexibly on the flanks and with a market value of 28 million euros, is said to lack robustness, among other things. “It’s different from the football I played in Spain. It’s a faster pace and more attack and defense. (…) I was asked to gain some weight and improve my physical condition,” quotes the portal “football.london“ the 20-year-old last fall.
It could now go back to its home country at short notice: According to information from the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano FC Valencia showed increased interest in a loan to Tottenham until the end of the season. Furthermore, first division club Real Sociedad and the French club OGC Nice are said to be interested in signing Gils.
Hlozek, Adeyemi & Co.: The most valuable U21 strikers
From a Spurs perspective, the key to a possible Gil deal could be the transfer of Adama Traorés (25) from Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the BBC, the Londoners recently failed with an initial offer of 18 million euros.
