Tottenham wants to take legal action against exclusion

London (dpa) – The traditional English club Tottenham Hotspur wants to take legal action against its exclusion from the Conference League by the European Football Union and, if necessary, take it to the CAS International Court of Justice.

“I am very disappointed with UEFA’s decision,” Tottenham coach Antonio Conte told the Daily Mail, according to the newspaper. The UEFA decision was “unfair, absolutely certain,” stressed Conte. “We deserve to play on the pitch to qualify – and not that way.”

The match between Spurs and Stade Rennes, which was canceled due to the corona, was rated 0: 3 by UEFA, as the European Association announced on Monday. Tottenham remains third in Group G behind Rennes and Vitesse Arnheim. He is very confident about a possible legal battle with UEFA, said Conte.

After a corona outbreak at the English Premier League club, the game was canceled on December 9th. Conte had confirmed several corona cases at the time. Accordingly, eight Spurs players and five employees tested positive for the corona virus. That is why there were also game cancellations in the league.

According to the UEFA regulations, the group stage must be completed by 31 December. If a timely rescheduling is not possible, according to UEFA rules, “the club that cannot take part in the game will be held responsible”. In this case, a 3-0 defeat will be declared.
