Tottenham lends Rodon to Stade Rennes: “He has to play as a national player”

Qualified for World Cup with Wales

Tottenham lends central defender Joe Rodon (24) to Ligue 1 FC Stade Rennes. As both clubs announced on Monday, the deal includes a purchase option for the French. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, this amounts to 20 million euros, which would mean that the “Spurs” would achieve a transfer plus if they were sold. Rodon moved from Swansea City to Tottenham in 2020 for €12.1m, for whom he has played 24 games since then. He made ten appearances last season, three of them in the Premier League.

“He will bring aggressiveness to our defense. That was one of the points we wanted to improve on compared to last season. Joe meets all criteria of the requirement profile. As a national player, he has to play. He did a lot to help Wales qualify for the World Cup. He’s a real leader on the pitch,” club president Olivier Cloarec said of Rodon. After his arrival at Tottenham, the defender saw his market value jump to his personal best of €10m before being subsequently devalued to the current €8m. In the Stade Rennes squad, Arthur Theate (22) and Loïc Badé (22) surpass this value in the central defender position with 15 and 12 million euros respectively.
