Total solar eclipse and other space events of 2024

The eclipse will be visible initially from the Pacific coast of Mexico, then advance towards the United States and Canada, ending on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland.

Full Moon on January 25, 2024: the first full moon of the year, is called the Full Wolf Moon. March 25, 2024 is the first eclipse of the year, but it will be a minor eclipse. To witness the full moon, we will have to wait until September 7, 2025, which will be as spectacular as that of July 27, 2018.

The shooting stars of April

April is the month of the second major shower of shooting stars, that of the Lyrides. They will be seen between April 15th and 28th, with a peak between the 22nd and 25th, even if they will fall right near the full moon, therefore not very visible to the eye. Never as beautiful as those of August, the month par excellence of Perseid shooting starswhose peak will occur as usual between 11 and 14 August, immediately after the night of San Lorenzo.

The October comet

The most anticipated astronomical event of October, it will be the passage of Comet C/2023 A3 Atlas. This comet’s closest approach to Earth is expected on the 12th, and it is precisely in this period that it could be bright enough to surpass the legendary Hale Bopp Comet of 1997. But the month will also offer Orionid meteor showerpeaking on the evenings of October 21st and 22nd.

And to close the year the Gemenides

December offers one of the most beautiful swarms of shooting stars: the Geminids between 10 and 24 December with a peak between 15 and 17 December. On December 8th, the day of the Immaculate Conception, there will be the Saturn-Moon conjunction observable throughout the evening.
