Toshisuke Kanazawa, 86, participated in a bodybuilding competition in Japan

The Japanese wants to inspire his own age group to take care of their muscle condition.

Toshisuke Kanazawa wants to be an example that age is not an obstacle for powerlifting.

The Japanese broke his own record by participating in his country’s bodybuilding championships in Osaka at the age of 86. The man from Hiroshima did not make it to the top 12 in the race, but the result was naturally a side issue for the man.

– I am already grateful that I can participate. I hope I can reach the hearts of others when they see me taking on the challenge at such an old age, Kanazawa stated.

The Japanese legend discovered the sport at the age of 20 and quickly rose to the elite of the sport in the island nation. After turning 50, he returned to the stage after a 16-year hiatus to inspire his ailing wife.

The 15-time Japanese champion says he has no intention of stopping bodybuilding. Kanazama says he wants to compete until he’s 90.

– I’m not even close to the finish line yet. It’s important to set goals and take on challenges, no matter what age you are, he insists.
