Three people were killed in Clarksville after a tornado ripped through the city on Saturday afternoon (local time). One of the fatalities is a child. 23 people were hospitalized with injuries.

In Nashville, the capital of Tennessee, about an hour’s drive to the southeast, three people were also killed in a major storm, authorities said. In both places there is a lot of damage to houses, buildings and electricity lines.

Clarksville Mayor Wes Golden called it a “sad day.” An emergency shelter has been set up for anyone who needs help. Residents of the city were asked to remain in their homes to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.

Videos show the tornado tearing its way through Clarksville, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Nashville authorities said emergency responders are still searching for injured people.
