Torn cruciate ligament! FC Bayern announces injury shock

Personnel setback for FC Bayern’s second women’s team: top talent Nike Herrmann will be missing from the team for months. The 21-year-old tore a cruciate ligament in her right knee.

The accident happened on September 17th, when FC Bayern’s base met relegated team Turbine Potsdam in the 2nd Bundesliga. In Munich’s 1-0 defeat, Herrmann had to be substituted shortly before the final whistle.

Now the bitter diagnosis followed: a torn cruciate ligament and a break of at least six months. According to the club, the young player underwent successful surgery last Monday and will begin her rehabilitation soon.

Herrmann has been playing for FC Bayern since 2017 and has since gone through all youth teams from U17 onwards. Under coach Clara Schöne, the midfielder has recently been a fixture in the second division team.

FC Bayern: Herrmann recently signed until 2025

It was only in April that FC Bayern gave Herrmann a two-year professional contract. Since the summer she has regularly taken part in training with the first team.

“Nike is the prime example of a player who developed through FC Bayern’s own talent development. She shows that you can work your way down this path with discipline and hard work,” said Nathalie Bischof, coordinator of talent development at the FCB campus, at the time.

Herrmann himself added: “I feel honored to be able to take my next steps at a club like FC Bayern. Thanks to the trusting relationship, my decision was quickly made clear.”

Now Herrmann will have to fight his way back into the team. It is at least questionable whether it will be ready for use again this season.

So far, the 21-year-old, who completed training as a physiotherapist alongside football, has appeared in 47 matches in the 2nd Women’s Bundesliga. She scored two goals.
