Scored a third of all Bayer goals
Bayer Leverkusen will have to do without their top scorer Patrik Schick for the time being. The 26-year-old striker suffered a torn muscle fiber in his left calf during the Bundesliga game at FSV Mainz 05 (2:3) on Friday evening and will not be available for “several weeks”, as the “Werkself” announced.
The Czech international has scored 20 goals in 20 league games so far and is second in the top scorers list. At third-placed Bayer 04, who have scored 60 goals so far in 2021/22, the attacker is responsible for a third of all goals. Only four professionals in the German football upper house have a better rate. With Lucas Alario (29), who scored in Mainz after Schick’s substitution, and Sardar Azmoun (27), who has not yet played for the winter, and who is due to start training soon, there are two more center forwards in the squad.
