For Eintracht Frankfurt coach Dino Toppmöller, his move from Julian Nagelsmann’s assistant to head coach was a logical development.
“Julian’s release in Munich, which was mine at the same time, happened the way it came. I then had talks with several clubs and developed the feeling that I would not continue on the path with Julian – with a clear conscience,” said the 42-year-old in the Frankfurt club magazine “Eintracht vom Main”.
Toppmöller was Nagelsmann’s assistant coach at RB Leipzig and FC Bayern until the separation took place in March of this year.
“In Leipzig I went to Munich with him. It was clear to me that I was loyal and would still stand by him, but also that I didn’t want to be assistant coach all the time,” said Klaus Toppmöller’s son, who coached Eintracht exactly 30 years ago.
Toppmöller described the talks with the 2022 Europa League winner as “professional and positive”. “The fact that Eintracht was also my father’s first Bundesliga stop made a huge impression on me. I was often in the stadium as a teenager – in the first game, the 4-0 win against Mönchengladbach, for example,” said the coach, who has signed a contract with the Hessians until 2026.
