The huge wasteland opposite Ikea on Landsberger Allee (Lichtenberg) is disappearing: a new neighborhood is being created there! On Friday was the topping-out ceremony for 1400 apartments.

The client is the state-owned company Gewobag. She promises: 222 apartments are for tenants with WBS (6.60 euros per square meter), 500 apartments are intended for students. There will be 350 parking spaces in an underground car park, green roofs, a day care center and a supermarket.

Franziska Giffey (44, SPD) came to the laying of the foundation stone. “1400 apartments – that’s a house number,” said the government. The project is “one of the major flagship construction projects in Berlin”.

It needs “the cooperatives just like the private partners,” emphasized Giffey. “Only then will it be possible to build enough apartments in Berlin.”

The new neighborhood in Lichtenberg should be ready in early 2026.
