Polit-Berlin had this date in its calendar! Topping-out ceremony at the gasometer – the highlight of the Euref campus (Schoeneberg).
The newly governing Kai Wegner (50, CDU) enthused: “Great place for the future!” His predecessors Wowereit, Müller, Diepgen, half of the current Senate licked ice cream and bratwurst. Franziska Giffey (45, SPD) walked from her new desk as Economics Senator to take a “look through the keyhole of the future”.
The 78 meter high gasometer: shut down as a gas tank in 1995. For four years (2011-15) on TV as a studio for Günther Jauch’s (66) political talk on Sundays. The redesign is the final point on the EUREF campus, where 7,000 people are working on the energy and mobility transition.
Investor Reinhard Müller (70) is converting the gasometer for 200 million euros. A congress center for 1300 participants will be set up in the lower area by June 2024. The steel frame was glazed over the area with the green metal border, creating a round office building.
At the end of January, the railway will move into twelve floors with a height of 16 meters and upwards, with 2,000 employees. IT specialists who digitize the network so that, for example, trains can run at shorter intervals. The top floor with the Skylounge is reserved for events. There will also be guided tours.
In view of the magnificent view, Bahn boss Richard Lutz (58) flattened at the topping-out ceremony: “I hope that the employees will work from time to time…”
