Germany’s top volleyball player Louisa Lippmann will continue her career in the sand. As the German Volleyball Association (DVV) announced on Friday, the 27-year-old’s decision corresponds to “their own desire for more self-determination and individuality”.
At the end of April, the diagonal attacker surprisingly ended her successful indoor career prematurely.
“I reached my limits mentally and then physically,” said Lippmann. But she doesn’t want to give up competitive sport entirely: “For me, it’s all about learning beach volleyball.”
For this purpose, the 162-time national volleyball player will train at the federal base in Hamburg. It is still unclear with which partner she will compete in the future.
Last year, the 162-time national player from Herford was only the third player to be voted volleyball player of the year for the fifth time in a row, but then lost her regular place at her Italian club Savino Del Bene Scandicci. With the DVV selection, 9th place at the 2014 World Championships was Lippmann’s greatest success, the dream of the Olympics remained unfulfilled.
Lippmann gained her first experience in the sand two years ago: At that time she competed in a qualifying tournament for the German beach volleyball championships in Timmendorfer Strand.
