House prices are still rising and are really skyrocketing. The top 10 most expensive houses for sale in Limburg are not just castles, churches and complete riding stables. There are even semi-detached houses. Very exclusive terraced houses.
Houses in Limburg change owner for about 323,000 euros on average. But if you have a little more to spend, a few million for example, you can pick up some very special properties. For most of us, those houses are of course far out of reach, but it’s still nice to look ‘inside’ for a while.
Check out the top 10 most expensive homes on Funda in Limburg* here:
10. Country house with horse stud in Meerssen
For almost 1.9 million euros you can become the owner of a own riding school, with a detached country house, just outside the built-up area of Meerssen. The house is secluded from the horse stud farm so you have privacy when you dive into the heated outdoor pool.
The riding school houses, among other things, 24 horse boxes and an indoor arena with a canteen. There are also spacious horse pastures.
9. Former church in Maastricht
In eighth place is a very special building. For 1.9 million euros you can become the owner of a house in a former church. Not a small chapel, but a real impressive church on the center ring of Maastricht. Incidentally, for that amount you do not become the owner of the entire building; it also contains a laboratory. If you don’t want to share, you can talk about buying the entire building, but then you will undoubtedly have to dig a lot deeper into your pocket.
Incidentally, from the couch you can enjoy the stained glass windows and wall and ceiling paintings in all their glory. Those original details have all been preserved. The bedrooms are built as a kind of box in the immense space.
8. Wine estate in Slenaken
You don’t have to go to France to become the owner of a real vineyard. Wine domain De Planck is for sale in Slenaken, almost on the Belgian border. You have a view of the vineyard from the terrace, the living room and the bedrooms. White, pink, rosé and sparkling wines are made on the wine estate.
The house itself is still fairly new, built in 2010. But the biggest pearl lies mainly around it, the vines that meander over the hilly landscape.
6. Twice a terraced house for two million euros
In a shared fifth place are two terraced houses. Two exclusive terraced houses, in Venlo and Maastricht. You have to put down two million euros to be allowed to live in such a house, but then you can also enjoy extreme luxury.
A tree grows in the middle of the modern house in Venlo, which you can see from different rooms. The house is located in the center of the city and has its own private roof garden with a relaxing pool.
The terraced house in Maastricht, which is for sale for exactly the same asking price, is of a completely different grandeur. The mansion in eclectic style was built under the direction of the Maastricht architect Joseph Hollman.
5. Equestrian accommodation with farmhouse in Helden
On a plot of approximately 2.5 hectares, in Helden, there is a renovated equestrian accommodation, with a detached farmhouse, riding hall, stable units, a horse stable and meadows. The farm itself could do with a facelift, but the stables and riding arena are modern (2019).
4. Chateau L’Ermitage in Valkenburg
On three is an old acquaintance. Chateau L’Ermitage has been for sale for years. The renovated building is for sale for a sloppy 2.9 million euros and is located on the outskirts of Meerssen. You will get a real wellness building for this, including a large indoor swimming pool, Turkish bath and sauna. A branch is even completely furnished as a man cave.
3. Luxury villa in Weert
The cheapest house in the top three of Limburg is in Weert. The villa was built in 1970 for the Dutch singer, producer and composer-lyricist Johnny Hoes. The house has a large indoor pool, several wellness facilities and even a complete company hall. You have to like a stately heavy style, because the interior contains a lot of dark wood and marble. Complete re-styling is of course also possible, but those costs are of course not included in the asking price of just under 3.3 million euros.
2. Schaloen Castle
This castle in Oud Valkenburg is located on an island in a protected nature reserve. Although the building appears to have been restored for the most part, it has been for sale for years. This castle has therefore been on our lists of most expensive homes for years. A new owner has still not been found. In 2009 the humble abode should have brought in 7.5 million euros. In 2018, that had already dropped to just under 6 million euros. And now a new owner can ‘already’ buy the castle for just under 4 million euros.
1. Castle in Roosteren for 5.6 million euros
And in first place is Ter Borch Castle. This house with more than 1,000 square meters of living space is located in Roosteren and can change owner for 5.6 million euros. This makes it the most expensive house for sale on Funda in our province.
Although 5.6 million euros seems like a lot of money, Ter Borch Castle is by no means the most expensive house on Funda. Of the 60,000 properties listed on the housing site, an apartment on Dam Square in Amsterdam is the most expensive, with no less than 10.5 million euros. This is followed by homes in Naarden, Noordwijk and Wassenaar.
* In this article we only looked at the Limburg homes that are listed on Funda, with a specific asking price. The homes that have a ‘price on request’ are therefore not taken into account. In practice, millionaires with a budget of at least 2 million euros have a little more choice. Still a nice idea.
