Eugene (dpa) – The German top runner Konstanze Klosterhalfen was in good shape in the early stages of the World Cup season. The 2019 World Cup third placed fourth over the rarely run two-mile distance in 9:16.73 minutes.
On the eve of the Diamond League meeting in Eugene, USA, the 25-year-old improved her best time of 9:18.16, which was the best time by a German runner over this distance.
Official German records or best times are not maintained over two miles. Victory went to Francine Niyonsaba (Burundi), who missed the world record of 8:59.08 minutes by around half a second.
In the women’s discus throw, which was brought forward for weather reasons, the Olympic silver medalist Kristin Pudenz from SC Potsdam took third place with 62.58 meters. Olympic champion Valarie Allmann (USA) won with 68.35 meters. Pole vault world record holder Armand Duplantis from Sweden won with 5.91 meters. The World Championships will take place in Eugene from July 15th to 24th. The European Championships in Munich follow shortly thereafter.
