Top or flop? According to the forecast, “The Batman” could import that much

According to industry calculations, the new “Batman” movie starring Robert Pattinson could gross up to $245 million. Experts estimate the film will gross US$115-125 million domestically and another US$110-120 million overseas, with global reach of US$225-245 million and more. That’s fine in times of a pandemic, but not comparable to blockbusters like the new “Spider-Man”, which has so far generated $760 million in the US alone.

“Batman” review:

The $200 million film marks Warner Bros.’ return to theatrical-only releases since implementing a day-and-date strategy by HBO Max for its U.S. division, which marks Christmas 2020 with Wonder Woman 1984” began.

And the first figures from South Korea, where the film has been showing since March 1st, could prove the experts right: The film started on a public holiday in South Korea with box office earnings of 1.7 million US dollars.

This is by far Warner Bros.’ best opening day in the genre during the pandemic, the second-best debut for a Batman film since The Dark Knight Rises, and an industry-best grossing for South Korea in 2022. The box-office number is particularly impressive because the number of Covid infections in the country has risen sharply in the past few days.

In the US, the film opens on March 2nd. Warner is hoping for $90 million in box office earnings by Thursday. Other DC movies like Justice League and Joker had opened box offices with $93.8 million and $96.2 million, respectively. Due to the falling Covid numbers and the fact that 40 to 50 million dollars have already been taken in advance sales, the goal seems quite realistic.

In the coming days, “The Batman” will also start in other cinemas. In Germany, the film will start in cinemas on March 3rd.
