Top athletes are looking forward to ‘brawl race’ Egmond Half Marathon: “Go to battle”

The mutual battle during the Egmond Half Marathon makes the competition unique according to the athletes. Running sensation Nienke Brinkman appears at the start for the first time. “It’s going to be a fight and I’m looking forward to it,” says the athlete who ran a new Dutch record during the Rotterdam Marathon.

The 29-year-old athlete sees the competition in Egmond as a good learning lesson for herself. “Tactically, it’s good to learn things. When to attack and when not to. That’s a good experience for me,” says Brinkman. Her personal best in the marathon is 2:22:51. Towards the Olympic Games in Paris, she will have to eat something from that to meet the limit.

Live on NH Sport

The Egmond Half Marathon can be seen live on NH Sport. The broadcast starts on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. The women start at 12.16 and the men follow at 12.25.

Get faster

Brinkman hopes to create more speed by running races with a shorter distance. This also applies to Khalid Choukoud, who already participated in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021. The limit for 2024 is more than three minutes tighter than for the last edition. “I want to be one or two seconds faster every kilometer. Then I am confident that I will achieve that,” says the 36-year-old athlete.

In the men Choukoud will probably face competition from Björn Koreman. The athlete from North Brabant ran another ten-kilometer race (29.20) on New Year’s Eve and is starting to get in shape. “I have recovered well and that is often a good sign,” says the North Brabander. “When we go off the beach, I have to stay very alert. Then it will go wild. I’m looking forward to that.”
