It is not at all surprising to Tooske Ragas that the popularity figures of King Willem-Alexander and even Queen Máxima have reached a new low. “I really thought: girl!”
The TV program EenVandaag has confidence in King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima polled among the more than 26 thousand members of their opinion panel. Never before have they scored so low: 54 percent still have confidence in him, and 61 percent in her. There is particular annoyance about their frivolous behavior during the corona crisis.
Fierce numbers
Weekend boss Bart Ettekoven is shocked by the low numbers. “To be honest, I think these numbers are tough. That doesn’t make them happy,” he says at the Shownieuws desk.
Colleague Patty Brard: “What I also think is very strange is that it indeed also reflects on our queen, who we all really hold on to in terms of panache and everything.”
Royalty expert Sandra Schuurhof thinks that the royal couple should consult their advisers more often. “They are stubborn, but they are paying that price now.”
Tooske angry
After their controversial Greek mini-vacation, the royal couple recorded a video message in which they expressed their regret. Patty now calls it a ‘Kufnoen-like excuse’.
Bart: “Yes, what a bad play that was.”
Tooske Ragas calls this the moment when she was done with Máxima. “In my view, this has actually only made it worse. This is also when my image of Máxima flipped a bit. When I saw it look so sheepish, I thought: girl, just do it… Seriously…”
Although she didn’t finish her sentence, Tooske makes it clear that she was really done with it from that moment on.
been stupid
Bart thinks that the king would have done better then to speak from his heart. “He’s just not a good speaker. He is sitting there reading an autocue text.”
How could Tooske have remained a royalty fan? Patty: “She should have just said once, ‘We’ve been a bit stupid.’”
