Toon Gerbrands as a DJ at Omroep Brabant: about football, music and emotion

A former PSV director who becomes a DJ on Omroep Brabant radio. Toon Gerbrands once wrote in his book ‘My Style’ that he challenges himself twice a year to get out of his comfort zone. He then does this by practicing another profession. And high on the list is being a disc jockey.

Together with Omroep Brabant DJ Koen Wijn, Gerbrands recorded two hours of radio about the relationship between football, music and emotion.

Where do supporter songs come from? What is being played in the dressing room? Why is Guus Meeuwis’s ‘t Dondert and ‘t Bliksemt important for a Brabant title? Why is Simply The Best by Tina Turner the anthem of PSV? These are all questions Gerbrands has the answer to.

Gerbrands also tells his life story through music: side jobs, personal dramas and many highlights are discussed. “Prepared down to the last detail”, noted programmer Koen Wijn. “I was allowed to present, but I was really fascinated by Toon’s stories. At times I even got the feeling that I was in the locker room or that I was at the AZ championship party.”

Toon Gerbrands’ broadcast can be heard on Friday night between 0.00 and 02:00, but you can also listen to it here.
