The individual ski jumping from the large hill next Friday (5:30 p.m.) and the team jumping on Saturday (4:30 p.m.) are among the highlights of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica. While other nations are still pondering which jumpers will be included in the respective squad, the Swiss squad is already set. The reason: Youngster Dominik Peter is no longer in Slovenia.
The 21-year-old Dominik Peter left the Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica early, as Swiss Ski announced. However, the reason for the departure is not an injury, but it took place after mutual consultation with the coaching staff “for technical reasons”.
The man from Zurich had already lost out to his Swiss teammates after three training jumps in the internal qualification for jumping from the normal hill. Thus the World Championship ends for Peter without an official competition.
Dominik Peter is considered a talent in his home country, in 2021 he won the bronze medal at the Ski Jumping Junior World Championships in Lahti. In 2019 he celebrated his debut in the World Cup, this season he is in 40th place with 44 points.
The Swiss team at the Ski Jumping World Championships is set
When Piotr Zyla won the World Championships on the normal hill last Saturday, on which the two Germans Andreas Wellinger and Karl Geiger took second and third place, Gregor Deschwanden was the best Swiss jumper in 19th place.
Ski jumping oldie Simon Ammann took 28th place, Killian Peier and Remo Imhof didn’t make it into the final of the top 30. The only 19-year-old Imhof, who has never taken part in a World Cup competition, qualified in 50th place.
That means: The quartet of Simon Ammann, Gregor Deschwanden, Killian Peier and Remo Imhof will also represent Switzerland in the team competition on Saturday at the end of the World Championships.
