The weather is causing problems in the run-up to the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto. One of the training sessions now had to be canceled.
Too strong winds led to the cancellation of the planned training sessions two days before the start of the Biathlon World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic.
The stadium and the tracks had to be closed due to the difficult weather situation, meaning the athletes were unable to prepare for the upcoming competitions. It is currently assumed that normal training can resume on Tuesday when the weather improves, said a spokesman for the IBU World Association when asked by the German Press Agency.
Artificial snow ensures the event
The World Championship is scheduled to begin with the mixed relay race on Wednesday (5:20 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). There will be a total of twelve titles in Nove Mesto until February 18th.
Even without a storm, preparations in the Moravia region southwest of the capital Prague have recently been difficult. The temperatures are significantly above zero, and it has also rained off and on in the past few days. Hopes are high that it will be colder at least in the second week of the World Cup.
On the routes around the Vysocina Arena there is about one meter of artificial snow on a white band. There is also enough artificial snow in the depots to ensure that the competitions can take place.
