Bayern Munich’s new signing Mathys Tel has attracted attention with several goals this season, but the young Frenchman is mostly on the bench. But that is by no means a reason for the 17-year-old to express frustration.
Mathys Tel came to FC Bayern in the summer at a time when the club had to seriously consider new options in the center of the attack for the first time in years. After Robert Lewandowski’s departure to FC Barcelona, the right foot was committed as a man for the future, superstar Sadio Mané came from Liverpool FC as an immediate solution.
In the past few weeks, however, another Bayern attacker in permanent reserve Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has caught the eye of coach Julian Nagelsmann: The 33-year-old delivered after missing the first five league games injured and then only for short periods received an incredible ten goals and three assists in October and November alone.
A yield that, conversely, was also reflected in the operating times of Mathys Tel.
Tel does not want to “complain” at Bayern Munich
With twelve competitive games so far, in which he was on the pitch for an average of 28 minutes, the new signing is by no means unhappy. “As a footballer, you hope to be able to play regularly. But I’m still young, I’m content with what I’m given,” Tel told the “tz“: “I’m not here to bitch.”
Rather, Tel “take what I get and try to improve myself,” pushed the 20 million euro newcomer afterwards. Despite his brief appearances, the Frenchman has already scored four competitive goals this season, including a goal in the 6-1 thrashing of Werder Bremen.
However, the Bayern head coach had something to complain about when he shot from a distance. Although Julian Nagelsmann was “happy that he scored”, Tel shouldn’t have actually shot in this situation, but had to play it to Kinglsey Coman. “I think if he doesn’t score then he gets in trouble with his team-mates and colleagues on the field.”
