Too lazy to work or money for a joint: people from Brabant keep their hands up

A major setback or an unfulfilled dream: on social media these days one donation action after another is passing by. They are often set up because of appealing stories, such as a life-saving operation or a funeral for a deceased family member. But people from Brabant also dare to hold up their hands for bolder reasons. Omroep Brabant did a tour of crowdfunding websites and selected the most striking requests for you.

Money for birthday
Suzanne from Bergen op Zoom decided years ago to go on a world trip and is now in Rio de Janeiro. She wanted some extra pocket money for her birthday party there. “I’m showing you all beautiful places in the world and only going backwards financially.”

With a friendly request, she therefore managed to collect 105 euros. “Support my party in Rio and it will be a great party guaranteed! For me then… because you are in the rain in the Netherlands.”

Too lazy to work
The Oisterwijkse Marijn wants to go on a luxury holiday this summer. He graduated from high school this year and wants to celebrate. Now there are a lot of donations from people who are short on cash and kindly ask for a little extra for the holiday season. But Marijn has his own motives.

“I’m too lazy to go to work, so I thought this was an easy way to get the money together,” he admits honestly. He hopes to collect as much as ten thousand euros. “Of course I have to be able to buy expensive bottles of champagne on vacation.” It seems that he will have to pay for those bottles himself, because Marijn has only collected five euros.

Place to rave
Michael from Hank decided last May that there still had to be a good place to party. The solution: a sea container.

And while most donations come with a detailed description to persuade readers to donate money, Michael’s message is short but sweet: “Give us a shipping container to use as a rave shack”, that’s the explanation. He hopes to get one for just under six hundred euros, but so far his request has not yielded any money.

Youngest Millionaires Ever
11-year-old Ruben and 12-year-old Teun from Breda have a slightly bigger goal than a sea container. They want to be the youngest millionaires ever. They don’t have a goal for the money yet. “If it’s successful, we’ll see what we do with it,” they write. And the boys don’t want to get this record just for themselves.

“We would really like to get this done together with you, so that the Netherlands also has a good world record.” Their campaign has so far not yielded much: of the million euros, only five have been collected.

Keep the Haunted Castle alive
It may not be a striking donation, but many people from Brabant will certainly appreciate this. Stephan is one of the many who regrets that the Spookslot will soon disappear from the Efteling. After the wrecking ball goes in this summer, Stephan hopes with his donation that the attraction can still live on online.

“I would like to keep the Haunted Castle alive online. The goal is to buy a film from a professional company.” This film must be placed on a website for the Spookslot. “For a one-time one hundred euros I get official permission from the copyright owner to use this video.” So far, 25 euros has been donated.

A good joint
We do not know whether the initiator is from Brabant. But we cannot deny you this request either. Stan has recently been robbed and needs some financial help. “My four grams of hash just ran out,” he explains. For thirty euros he hopes to be able to roll a good new joint with his friends. So far, no one has donated any money.
