Aleksander Aamodt Kilde suffered a dislocation of his shoulder joint and a flesh wound on his leg in his violent fall in Wengen just over two weeks ago. It was widely said afterwards that the feared serious injuries did not occur. Since then, Kilde has experienced a martyrdom – the Norwegian posts pictures on Instagram that make your blood run cold.
In nine pictures and videos, the 28-year-old describes what has happened to him since he was born on the legendary Lauberhorn run in Wengen.
Instagram even precedes a photo of his flesh wound on his leg with a warning, it’s that brutal.
Anyone who wants to see the picture must explicitly agree. Urgent notice: Really think about it if you still have an appetite today.
Kilde describes his ordeal in bullet points since he was admitted to the hospital in Bern. In “week one,” for example, he tried to go to the bathroom but “fainted,” reports the alpine ski star. After his transfer from Bern to Innsbruck, the doctors operated on the “complete rotator cuff and capsule” of his shoulder joint.
Kilde describes what followed as “10 out of 10 of the worst pain I’ve ever had after surgery. And then I had a panic and anxiety attack from the painkillers.”
Alpine skiing: encouraging words from Mikaela Shiffrin
In “week two” there was at least progress. Kilde managed to “sit upright for ten minutes – without collapsing” and “go to the bathroom alone.” He also prepared “for seven weeks in a wheelchair,” “showered alone” again and talked to his girlfriend Mikaela Shiffrin via “Facetime.” He still couldn’t move his “toes,” but doctors expected a “complete recovery of the motor functions in my foot.”
Kilde emphasized that these “baby steps” gave him the energy he needed to endure the long road back. The speed specialist thanked all his fans and followers for their support.
There were also encouraging words from friend Shiffrin. “Your muscles are really beautiful on the inside. Overwhelming. Your strength saved you from more damage in this crash and it’s exactly that strength that will get you back and jumping around as quickly as possible,” wrote the American and posted two hearts.
Shiffrin himself also fell during the downhill run at the previous World Cup weekend in Cortina d’Ampezzo, but escaped without serious injuries. She then announced a break from competition.
