Schindler with the first chance

From the start, the Franconians had a slight field advantage and created the first chance. But Christopher Schindler’s header from a Johannes Geis corner flew just wide of the right post (10′).

But that was apparently the wake-up call for Lauterer, who almost took the lead three minutes later. Club keeper Christian Mathenia was already beaten when Julian Niehues took control, but Lino Tempelmann saved on the line.

Knight just missed

As a result, the game shares were distributed fairly evenly, but the next top chance again had the Red Devils, who switched quickly. Marlon Ritter shot at full speed in the 27th minute, but aimed just wide of the goal.

Not much happened in either penalty area until the break, and in the second half it was Lautern’s turn again: Kenny Redondo found his master in Mathenia in the 51st minute, but would have done better to cross the ball to Jean Zimmer, who was completely free.

Boyd is making it too complicated

Less and less came from Nuremberg as a result, Lautern pushed and pushed, but there was a lack of clarity in front of the goal. Terrence Boyd tried it in the 69th minute after a great discard from Aaron Opoku with the right outside instep in front of Mathenia, so the keeper, who was getting stronger and stronger, still got his fingertips on the ball.

Nine minutes before the end, Nuremberg had to survive another moment of shock. Referee Michael Bacher had already decided on a hand penalty for FCK, but after intervention by VAR he realized that it was not Jamie Lawrence’s arm but Lauterer’s Boris Tomiak on the ball – the penalty was taken back.
