S.tasera at 21.20 on Channel 5 enjoy The big leapthe first directorial comedy of the Roman actor Giorgio Tirabassiloved for his performances in Police District, Boris and in the most recent Freaks Out by Gabriele Mainetti. Tirabassi tries to make us breathe a little bit of that bitter and funny comedy Monicelli, Steno and Risi peering into the life of dand penniless 50-year-old friends and looking for work.
The big leap: the plot
Nello (Ricky Memphis) and Rufetto (Tirabassi) are longtime friends just released from prison for a robbery gone wrong. Homeless and work, they try to bring home the loaf, but the only thing they can do is steal. They start studying ithe shot that will make him take the big leap, the final one. There is one though: every time the two try to steal something goes wrong. For example: they decide to rob a brand new post office, they hood up, they arm themselves like two Serie A thieves, they enter the office and they realize, only at that moment, that it is still being renovated. How THE usual unknowns Nello and Rufetto are “z” thieves.
And Anna knows it well (Roberta Mattei), Rufetto’s wife, who no longer believes in her husband’s promises, capable only of making trouble. She would be content to lead a quiet life together with her family and child Luca aged eight and no longer having to undo her husband’s disasters.
The big leap and the homage to the Italian comedy
The dip is in the Italian comedy that has marked our cinema with the films of Monicelli, Risi and Steno. Giorgio Tirabassi is imbued with that legendary cinema and so does one sort of homage to that period much loved of our tradition.
Nello and Rufetto they look like they came out of one of those vintage comedies signed by the great masters. The two bad guys, who simply try to make it right, are pulled by the jacket by the actor-director who takes them around the various genres. The big leap in fact it seems to follow in the footsteps of the classics of comedy to then encroach on grotesquein farcein the surreal is in the melancholy. Tirabassi has the courage to aim high, too bad he sometimes seems to lose his compass.
The cameos: from Marco Giallini to Lillo
In the film there are also some illustrious cameos: those of Marco Giallini in the role of the Gypsy, of Valerio Mastandreapost office employee, and of Lilloin the role of the mechanic Ghigoeven if everyone calls it Chicco and he just can’t stand it. Paola Tiziana Cruciani instead she plays the role of Maria, Rufetto’s mother-in-law. Laughter is guaranteed.
