National coach Toni Söderholm does not want to talk about his expiring contract with the German Ice Hockey Federation for the Winter Olympics.
The contract with the internationally sought-after Finn expires after the World Cup in Helsinki in May. DEB is keen to keep Söderholm.
However, the 43-year-old coach is speculating on a more lucrative job, possibly even in the North American professional league NHL.
“After the Olympics, but before the World Cup, I will make my decision,” said Söderholm of “Bild am Sonntag”.
His predecessor Marco Sturm switched to the Los Angeles Kings as an assistant coach after the surprising silver medal in 2018.
Söderholm is hoping for another coup: “I bet that the Olympic champion comes from Europe. We also have a good chance.”
