A serenade for the grandpa, an order for the grandson: Toni Kroos, a birthday serenade for his grandfather was accepted when the Mecklenburg-Western Order’s Order was received.

With several hundred spectators, the 2014 football champion sang “Happy Birthday” for his grandpa Heinz at the award ceremony in the Volksstadion Greifswald. The family celebrated the day of honor until the early hours of the morning on Friday, said Kroos.

With the award, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) in Kroos’ birthplace not only recognized his successful career at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and in the German national team, but also the social engagement in his foundation. “In Germany, his foundation helps children and families in need,” said Schwesig.

Kroos (35) ended his career in the previous year after the home European Championship. Overall, he won the Champions League and numerous national titles six times. The highlight of his career was the winning of the World Cup Cup in Brazil eleven years ago. As a teaching from his long career, he gave those present “that it is just about hard work,” said Kroos: “Behind every professional and especially behind every big career there is a lot of hard work.” The basis of everything is “training, training, training”.
