Japanese zipper manufacturer YKK is expanding its presence in India by investing $150 million to build a new factory in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The new production facility will be located in the Origins by Mahindra industrial park near Chennai and will be YKK India’s third factory, according to the company.
With the expansion, the Japanese group is responding to India’s growing importance as a global production location for textiles and clothing as well as increasing demand in domestic and export business. The new plant will work closely with the existing factories in Haryana, northern India, and integrate state-of-the-art production technologies.
The factory will be built on a site measuring around 150,000 square meters and will have a building area of almost 75,000 square meters. Completion is scheduled for February 2028.
In addition to expanding production capacities, YKK announces that it wants to create additional jobs locally and support regional development. The company has been active in India since 1995 and produces and sells closure solutions for the clothing industry there.
