Ton must make Dwingelerweg in Ansen safer, there will not be a cycle path for the time being

De Wolden wants to focus on a safe bicycle connection from Ansen towards the municipal border. The council agreed on Thursday evening to make a ton available for that. Initially there was a plan to build a bicycle path, but that has not been implemented for the time being. Traffic calming measures are now being considered to improve the traffic on the street.

The intention to construct a bicycle path along the Dwingelerweg in Ansen stems from the Bicycle Plan adopted in 2008. The province eventually even made a subsidy available for it, but that money no longer seems necessary.

During a walk-in meeting in May last year, the plans were again presented to local residents. During those conversations it became clear that there was little support for a separate bicycle path. They experience road safety and speed outside the area as a bigger problem. The focus should be on that, the neighborhood believes.

The entire council agreed with the proposal. The VVD did come up with a motion and amendment to realize both a cycle path and the extra traffic safety measures. But it was eventually shot down.

The PvdA also commented on the possible arrival of holiday homes in the Rheelanden area. A developer has plans to build 125 there. “As a result, tourism can increase and the crowds on the Dwingelerweg can increase even further,” said Anneke Assink.

Karin Brouwer of the CDA believes that the traffic calming measures should be discussed with local residents. A meeting will be scheduled shortly. With regard to the holiday homes, alderman Mark Turksma was able to indicate that there are developments. “We will take the developments into account in the plans.”
