Tomorrow nuisance for bus & coastal tram: “Half fewer trips”
At Flemish level, only 60 percent of all journeys will be driven at De Lijn tomorrow Friday. The reason is the actions taken by the common trade union front in Kortrijk, Leuven and Hasselt.
This is reported by the Flemish public transport company, which further emphasizes that the action is not directed against De Lijn, but serves as a signal to the government in the discussion about purchasing power.
No strike notice has been submitted at NMBS and so they do not expect any disruption on Friday, and everything at STIB will also run according to schedule.
Hinder in each province
At least half of the De Lijn buses and trams will run in each province, but this can vary per province. It is also true that the nuisance in rural areas will be less than in urban areas.
In East Flanders, De Lijn expects that 65 percent of all journeys will be made, in West Flanders in Flemish Brabant this is 60 percent and in Antwerp and Limburg 55 percent.
Of the Coastal tram approximately 55 percent of the planned journeys will be made. An alternative service has been developed based on the available staff, which can be consulted on the company’s website and app. Trips that are not running are not shown in the route planner.
Manifestation in Kortrijk
The unions are taking to the streets because “the bills are too high and the wages too low”. In Hasselt, the unions plan a “Mega Open Air Pay Quiz”, speeches and testimonies in the morning, in Leuven they gather at 10 am at Martelarenplein and in Kortrijk at 11 a.m. at Mandelaplein.
