Only participating in the TV series made rock musician Tommi Läntinen understand the meaning of his life’s work.
When a rock musician Tommi Läntinen, 64, scrolls through photos of him taken in the 80s, he laughs out loud. The stream of memories takes me away when the picture shows a smiling orange-haired young man with his hair standing up like a proper rock musician should.
– Back then, gel, varnish and beeswax were hard to come by, Läntinen recalls the hair trends of the time.
The man who has been gigging around Finland for over 40 years has indeed seen the ups and downs of the music world. There have also been moments in my own career that have made me think.
– At one point, I didn’t have a recording contract for almost ten years. That’s what I thought, I’m not the hottest hottie and young people drive by.

– There was a feeling of loneliness and inadequacy.
Last fall, Läntinen starred Only life – program, where a group of well-known Finnish artists share their own memories around a common table. At the same time, the singers’ old hits see a new light of day.
Participating in the Western series was an eye-opening experience.
– I realized during filming that what I have done and am doing is meaningful. It brought a healthy self-esteem. I got the feeling that I can still make this music.
Behind the scenes, friendships were also born that have lasted even after the cameras turned off. Läntinen says that he is jogging with a friend from the band The 69 Eyes Jyrki 69’s with.

A messenger of love
A brand new album will be released from Länti on Friday The world turns towards the light. The content of the new album could be described as a praise of love and hope, where we believe in a better future even in the midst of gloom.
– I’m a love singer and I’m clearly on the side of good. Humanity interests me and I’m really curious about life, Läntinen admits.
Today’s discussion culture makes a musician angry instead.
– Opinion and fact are not equal. You can have an opinion about a fact, but a fact is still a fact, and the fact hurts quite often, he sums up.
– Now are the last moments to wake up to the global climate crisis. It is all of us and no one can get away from it.
In the middle of the interview, the musician laughs about how he started to “go wild again”. Although climate change and the war in Ukraine come up in Läntinen’s speech, he has a comforting thought about the future.
– However, I don’t think the world is turning towards destruction.

The rock musician’s new album has also been made by his own son, Ilmari Läntinen. Many may remember Ilmari Song for love: Secret Song Finland –of the program where he sensitized his father with his touching performance last year.
– Ilmari is really talented. He has been playing at festivals in my band, but now he has his own musical patterns, says Läntinen.
The fire of the heart is still strong in the rock musician’s chest, and the joy of doing one’s own work goes along with it. Läntinen, who turned 64 in August, states that his singing flows brilliantly and his interpretation has deepened.
Läntinen thinks that he will never leave music. At some point, however, he may move on to help younger artists who are striving to advance in the industry.
What would you say to the young Tommi Läntinen, who is at the beginning of his career, today?
– After all the steps, everything is fine. Don’t worry, he adds.
– And by the way, it was good that you watched that clip at papa’s About Alice Cooper.
