Last weekend, FC Schalke 04 lost just under 1-0 (0-0) to BVB in the Revierderby. Even days later, the defeat is still heavy on the stomachs of many Knappen pros.
One of them is summer newcomer Tom Krauss, who is currently with the German U21 national team. The 21-year-old admitted in “ran“-Interview. The bankruptcy in Dortmund was “extremely painful”.
The promoted team had kept zero for the big favorite for a long time, but conceded the decisive goal in the final phase through Joker Youssoufa Moukoko. His presence in the U21 does not necessarily make life easier for Krauss.
“I’ve already given him one or two spells,” revealed the midfielder with a smile. When he greeted Moukoko, he said with a wink: “Hey colleague, that shouldn’t have been the case now.”
However, Krauss did not want his sayings to be understood in a malicious way. “In general, I get along very well with Youssoufa. We were opponents at the weekend, now we’re teammates again,” said the youngster, who was loaned out to Gelsenkirchen by RB Leipzig.
Krauss: That’s why FC Schalke lost at BVB
Despite the defeat, Krauss also has positive memories of the emotional encounter at Signal Iduna Park.
“For me it’s the biggest derby in the world. And as a Schalke fan, which I’ve always been, it’s really awesome to be able to play a game like this for my club and that’s something very special, of course,” he enthused.
At the same time, the strategist admitted that he deserved to lose. “We defended very well for 80 minutes, but hardly managed anything on offense. We had a lot of bad passes, especially in the transition moments, and acted uncleanly. That’s why we couldn’t really annoy Dortmund,” analyzed Krauss.
It is important for the 21-year-old to continue to approach the season with humility. “For us as a team, it’s all about staying up. You have to be that honest and we communicated that just as clearly before the season,” emphasized Krauss.
