Tom Egbers must have been shocked last night when he sat unsuspectingly on the couch watching Even Tot Here. There was a pretty ugly joke about him there.
Tom Egbers’ career is complete hold put. The reason? Seventeen years ago he would have bullied a colleague with whom he had a romantic affair. A comeback does not seem to be possible for the time being: the NOS announced just before the weekend that Dione de Graaff will replace him at Other Times Sport.
Tom really such a boogeyman?
Not everyone is convinced that Tom’s behavior was really that bad. “That Tom Egbers only has something to explain to his wife. He cheated and the lady he cheated with is just as guilty, because she knew she was going into business with a married man,” said Johan Derksen, for example, in Today Inside.
According to Johan, Tom has done nothing wrong. “If I get into a relationship with someone here in the company who is also mature and consensual, and that relationship ends, you often end up with a bad relationship. I think it’s all so logical and human what happened.”
Violent television joke
Opinions about Tom are divided, but the fact that he has not misbehaved nearly as badly as some stars of The Voice of Holland – Ali B and Jeroen Rietbergen are even being prosecuted for rape – is of course beyond doubt.
Nevertheless, the stars of Even Tot Hier dared to tar Tom with the same brush as the Voice perverts last night during a spicy joke, namely when it came to the abuses surrounding the Groningen gas drilling.

Niels van der Laan during his story about Groningen: “The cabinet was not going to halve production.”
His colleague Jeroen Woe: “In fact, they started drilling even more.”
Niels: “The oil companies wanted to ‘weaken down’ the investigations.”
Jeroen: “Yes, because then ‘the most dangerous sting in the discussion’ is.”
Niels: “So they say: ignore the warnings and just make it even worse.”
Jeroen: “Yes, that is like saying: The Voice can still come back, but we will add an extra chair for Tom Egbers!”
Niels: “Then it will become demonstrably worse, won’t it!”
Emotional life
It is a pretty spicy joke from Niels and Jeroen, especially knowing that Tom is very emotional in this matter. For example, he sat crying at the table in the talk show Khalid & Sophie.
What Tom thinks of this joke is unclear, but it can hit him pretty hard. He hopes for reputation recovery and of course this kind of teasing does not help.
