Tom Egbers does not want to participate in Today Inside for the time being

Tom Egbers does not want to join Today Inside for the time being, despite the support of the men sitting at the table there. “Not yet. No, I’ll let him walk for a while.”

It has been more than six months since Tom Egbers was exposed as a NOS bully. Seventeen years ago he messed around with an intern who was 26 years (!) younger and they ended up having trouble with each other in the workplace. That came out all these years later and now the presenter has been inactive for quite some time.

Logical and human

The men of Today Inside think it’s ridiculous that Tom has to sit at home for so long. “I’m a bit upset about that, yes. That Tom Egbers only has something to explain to his wife,” Johan Derksen fumed earlier in VI. “He cheated and the lady he cheated with is just as guilty.”

What does Johan mean by that? “Well, she knew that she was doing business with a married man, but I don’t hear about that in the Volkskrant. If I get into a relationship here within the company with someone who is also mature and consensual, and that relationship is broken, then you are often left with a bad relationship. I find it all so logical and human.”

Inexplicable

Media expert Victor Vlam called it ‘inexplicable’ a while ago that Tom has been at home for so long, but Jack van Gelder is just happily hopping around everywhere. “It feels like a lot of the things that happen as a result of inappropriate behavior involve a very high degree of arbitrariness.”

He continued: “Because yes, again, I really can’t explain why Tom Egbers is at home and Jack van Gelder is back at work. I have no idea.”

A guest in VI?

Back to now: Wilfred Genee has invited Tom to visit Today Inside, but the presenter holds off. “By the way, you received warm regards from Tom Egbers,” he says in the yesterday’s broadcast against colleague Johan Derksen.

Wilfred continues: “We asked him if he would like to join us soon. He says, ‘Not yet. No, I’ll let him walk for a while.’”

‘Always welcome’

Johan hopes that Tom will be present soon. “Yes, Tom knows that he is very welcome in your position at any time.”

Wilfred: “The teleprompter is ready, so everything is arranged, Tom. It will be done in no time!”
