Tom Dumoulin will ride his first race of 2022 in the United Arab Emirates. On Sunday he will be at the start of the fourth edition of the UAE Tour.
Dumoulin is the designated leader of the Team Jumbo-Visma formation for the seven-day stage race.
Tadej Pogacar
Dumoulin will have to cross his swords in this race with last year’s winner, two-time Tour winner Tadej Pogacar. The Slovenian will again try to win the home game of his team this year. It is very important for the Pogacar team that a good result is achieved with the team sponsored by the Emirates.
The UAE Tour is the first race in the World Tour of this season. Frans Maassen is the team leader of Team Jumbo-Visma during this stage race.
Ride against the clock
Dumoulin can show his time trial qualities in the third stage. However, for really big time differences, the trip against the clock is too short, only nine kilometers. The advantage for the men who can turn the big plate, however, is that the flat course only has one bend: the turning point.
Jebel Jais
In the fourth stage the climbing is blown. After 160 relatively easy kilometers, a 20 kilometer climb of the Jebel Jais awaits the riders. The average gradient of this climb is 5 percent.
hairpin bends
After two sprinters’ stages, the classification can be thoroughly shaken up in the last stage. After a completely flat run-up, the final climb Jebel Hafeet can yield fireworks. It goes up to the finish line of this round via wide hairpin bends. At about three kilometers before the finish, strong riders can make their mark on an 11 percent steep section.
Colombia
Tom Dumoulin has prepared for the match together with some teammates in Colombia. After five months, the Maastricht resident pins a jersey number on his jersey again in the United Arab Emirates. Dumoulin rode his last race on September 5, 2021. He was then third in the final stage of the Benelux tour.
During the preparation for the world championship in Flanders, the rider of Team Jumbo-Visma fell during a training session. His season was immediately over due to a broken wrist.
