Tom Dumoulin has added the Volta Limburg Classic to his calendar. He wants to gain more competition rhythm.
The Maastricht resident had to miss the Italian Strade Bianche race earlier due to a positive corona test. And because of that, an important game was lost in his preseason.
Limburg hills
At his own request and in consultation with the team management of Team Jumbo-Visma, he now opts for an extra ride through his favorite training area in South Limburg and the Belgian Voer region. He will therefore appear at the start in Eijsden on 2 April. Eight days later, the Amstel Gold Race is also on the program for Dumoulin.
Giro D’Italia
For Tom Dumoulin, the run-up to the classics in his own province consists of participating in the Tour of Catalonia. The stage race in Spain starts on March 21 and is an important race for Dumoulin on the way to the ultimate big goal, the Giro D’Italia.
Big names
With the participation of Dumoulin, the field of participants of the Volta gets even more charisma. Previously, multiple winner and veteran Phillipe Gilbert and his teammate Tim Wellens confirmed their participation.
World Tour
The presence of the top riders from four World Tour teams and the great talents from five pro-continental teams will give the organization great satisfaction. After two years of forced cancellations, the Volta Limburg Classic makes a wonderful restart with a strong field of participants.
