Tom Cruise is “busily working” on a new space movie

Also on board: “Edge of Tomorrow” director Doug Liman.

Tom Cruise is known for his daring stunts and daring car chases in films like the Mission: Impossible series, Jack Reacher and also Top Gun. The harder, the better seems to be his motto. Now the mime is tackling a new project that will catapult him to completely new heights – namely into space.

In fact, he’s “busily working” on the space movie, which Doug Liman is directing and with whom the actor previously collaborated on the 2014 sci-fi film Edge of Tomorrow.

In the work, Tom Cruise will play the first human being allowed to move freely in space as a civilian. Further details about the story and the further cast are currently unknown. In an interview with Variety, the 60-year-old only said, “We’re working hard on it and we’ll see where it goes.”

Universal Pictures is also backing the Space film with a budget of around $200 million. It is also currently unclear how far the preparations for the work have progressed and when it can be viewed in cinemas worldwide.

First, Tom Cruise has to finish filming the final “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two”. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie, who is responsible for both Dead Reckoning installments, said he and Cruise would jump right back into the sequel once the press tour for the first installment wraps up.

The latest “Mission: Impossible” film will be released in German cinemas on July 13th. It is the seventh installment in the film series in which Tom Cruise plays agent Ethan Hunt. The first part appeared in 1996.
